According to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County, Abdihakim Mohmed Egal is charged with two counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon for the Oct. 23 attack in south Minneapolis.

Police were called just after 11:25 p.m. to an apartment on the 900 block of 27th Avenue South, where officers found two men suffering from multiple stab wounds. Both were taken to HCMC with life-threatening injuries. One victim had a stab wound to the throat and both suffered multiple wounds to their torsos.

Egal, who police say was the one who called 911, told dispatchers he had stabbed his two friends, claiming they had tried to fight him. When officers arrived, Egal met them at the scene. Officers noted he smelled of alcohol, had blood on his hands and a sleeve soaked with blood, but no visible injuries. When told he would be transported to the Public Safety Building to meet with investigators, Egal reportedly said, “Why do I need to speak with investigators? I stabbed them!”

Inside the apartment, investigators found one victim in the living room and another in the kitchen. Police were unable to locate the knife used in the attack, the documents said.

One of the victims later told officers he had been with two men when a fight broke out. He said he tried to break it up, but one of the men—whom he knew as “Mohamed”—pulled out a foldable knife and started stabbing them.

Egal remains in custody. Bail was set at $50,000, and conditions of release include no contact with the victims, no possession of weapons, no use of alcohol or drugs and random testing.

Medical records are pending and could affect the severity of the charges, according to the complaint.
