Two Texas brothers who admitted using guns to threaten a family in Grant during a robbery that took more than $8 million in cryptocurrency have been sentenced to federal prison.
U.S. District Judge Donovan W. Frank sentenced Raymond Christian Garcia to 15 years and Isiah Angelo Garcia to 15½ years on Oct. 29. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota announced the terms, 180 and 186 months, on Oct. 30.
The brothers, both of Waller, Texas, pleaded guilty June 18 to one count each of interference with commerce by robbery. Each faced up to 20 years in prison. In their pleas, both men admitted using firearms to threaten the victims, according to prosecutors.

According to court documents, the brothers traveled from Texas to Minnesota and targeted a family at its home in Grant on Sept. 19, 2025. They zip-tied the family members, held them at gunpoint for more than eight hours and demanded access to a victim’s cryptocurrency accounts.
When the victim did not transfer as much as the brothers expected, they forced him to travel with Isiah Garcia to the family’s cabin in northern Minnesota, prosecutors said. There, he was made to retrieve more cryptocurrency storage devices and transfer the funds on them. In all, he was forced to hand over more than $8 million in cryptocurrency.
The brothers fled after the victim’s son called 911. Investigators used items the brothers left at the home to identify them before arresting both near Houston, prosecutors said. The law enforcement response also led Mahtomedi Public Schools to cancel its homecoming football game, according to the 2025 federal charging announcement.
“The Garcia brothers committed a brazen and calculated act of violence against the victim and his family,” U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen said in a statement.
As part of their guilty pleas, the brothers agreed to pay more than $8 million in restitution, prosecutors said in June. The sentencing announcement did not mention a restitution order.
A federal complaint filed in September 2025 charged the brothers with kidnapping. Each later pleaded guilty to one robbery count. They were also charged in Washington County that month with kidnapping, aggravated robbery and burglary. The sentencing announcement did not say what happened in those state cases.
The FBI and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rebecca E. Kline prosecuted the case.
