A man was sentenced in federal court to 5 years and 11 months in prison for unlawful possession of a machine gun, a case tied to a July 2025 robbery and vehicle theft reported to Brooklyn Park police, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota said.
Lazerrick Alante Stewart, 20, was sentenced on Oct. 6, 2026, to 5 years and 11 months (71 months), the office said in a news release dated Oct. 7. Stewart pleaded guilty on Feb. 19, 2026, and was sentenced before U.S. District Chief Judge Eric C. Tostrud, according to the release.
According to court documents cited by the office, Brooklyn Park police responded on July 23, 2025, to a report of a robbery and vehicle theft by two people at a convenience store. The release does not say whether Stewart was charged with the robbery or the vehicle theft.

The victim was returning to his vehicle after leaving the store when Stewart and another male approached him, the office said. Stewart was holding a Glock Model 19X 9 mm handgun fitted with a machine gun conversion device and pointed it at the victim to take the vehicle and the victim’s personal items, the office said, citing the court documents.
Stewart took the victim’s car keys and the other male took the victim’s backpack, which held a small amount of cash, the office said. After the two left, the victim soon left his vehicle and the area, according to the release.
About 40 minutes after the incident, Stewart and the other male returned to the scene and Stewart drove away with the vehicle, the office said. Law enforcement later found the vehicle unoccupied less than a mile away, according to the release.
Law enforcement later found and apprehended Stewart along with the handgun used during the robbery, another handgun, the victim’s car keys and the backpack, the office said. The release does not say whether the other male was charged.
Brooklyn Park police investigated the case with federal and county agencies, the office said.
