A man swung a large stick at two liquor store employees, stabbed both with a sharpened stick and smashed bottles across the store while yelling threats, prosecutors say.

Daquairus Nathaniel Black, 30, is charged in Hennepin County District Court with first-degree aggravated robbery, two counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and fourth-degree criminal damage to property, according to a complaint filed October 30.

According to the complaint, Brooklyn Center police were dispatched to the Brooklyn Center Liquor Store at about 4:05 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, after a customer complaint. Officers arrived to find broken bottles and spilled alcohol covering the front of the store and a large stick or branch near where they found Daquairus Nathaniel Black.

The complaint says an adult female employee told officers that Black placed a bottle of alcohol on the counter as if to purchase it. After her co-worker, an adult male employee, removed the security tag, Black grabbed the bottle and walked toward the door without paying. The employees stopped Black and asked for the bottle back.

Prosecutors say Black then swung a large stick, striking the male employee and pulled out a smaller, sharpened stick, stabbing both employees. Black began smashing wine bottles throughout the store and yelled that he would “kill them all.” Employees held Black down for everyone’s safety, the complaint says.

The male employee confirmed to officers that Black struck him in the head with the large stick. Officers observed the aftermath, including broken bottles and spilled alcohol.

Black is charged with first-degree aggravated robbery for allegedly using force and a weapon to take or attempt to take property from the store. The two counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon stem from the attacks on both employees with the sticks. The fourth-degree criminal damage to property charge relates to the destruction of bottles and alcohol inside the store.

The complaint says Black has prior felony convictions.
