A woman screamed for help as a man chased her from her Saint Paul home and struck another man inside, prosecutors say.

Dominique Jermichael Davis, 39, faces two counts of first-degree burglary, including assaulting a person in a building and entering an occupied dwelling, according to charges filed October 26 in Ramsey County District Court.

According to the complaint, at about 3:15 a.m. on October 18, Ramsey County 911 received a call from a home in Saint Paul. Dispatchers heard the sounds of a struggle and a woman screaming, “Get off of me!” before the call disconnected. Minutes later, a second caller reported seeing a woman being chased by a man.

Saint Paul police responded and spoke with the victim, who said she and a man had been sleeping in her bedroom when she woke up to use the bathroom. She told officers she heard movement in another bedroom and discovered Dominique Jermichael Davis inside, noting he does not live there and did not have permission to be in the home.

The victim said she screamed and Davis grabbed and pushed her. She said she was terrified and grabbed a knife to defend herself, but Davis took the knife from her and threw it.

The victim reported that Davis then ran into the bedroom where the man was sleeping and got into his face, leading to another struggle. The victim said she tried to call 911 and then ran outside, where Davis chased her before fleeing the area. She also told officers that Davis took her vehicle and house keys, as well as the man’s identification cards.

The man told police he was abruptly awakened when Davis entered the bedroom and said Davis struck him in the face with an object. Officers observed and photographed a significant laceration between his eyebrows and medics treated him at the scene. Officers were unable to locate Davis at that time.

The complaint states that about seven weeks earlier, the victim had been shot in the abdomen at the same home by a gun held by Davis’s adult son. A witness reported that Davis had encouraged his son to bring the gun to the home in connection with a dispute. The victim spent several weeks in the hospital after the shooting.

She later filed for an order for protection against Davis, stating he had previously strangled her, punched her in the mouth and prevented her from calling 911. A protection order was issued but later dismissed when the victim did not appear at a hearing. The day after the burglary, she filed for a second order for protection.
