A Moorhead man is charged with breaking into two units of a Moorhead apartment building on Aug. 27, including one where he is accused of punching a resident and kicking in a bedroom door, according to a criminal complaint.
Steve Alonzo Langston, 35, faces six felony charges, three counts of first-degree burglary, one count of second-degree burglary and two theft counts involving firearms, along with gross misdemeanor fifth-degree assault and misdemeanor property damage. The complaint was filed Aug. 31 in Clay County District Court.
According to the complaint, Moorhead police were called early on Aug. 27 to a report of a series of burglaries at an apartment building in the 1300 block of 20th Street South. Officers found signs of forced entry into several apartments and learned that a man had also fought his way into another unit and broken an interior door.

A resident of that unit told officers that Langston punched him in the face several times while trying to get in, then got inside and kicked in a bedroom door, the complaint says. Another resident of the unit said he was asleep for most of it. Officers saw the damaged bedroom door; the resident who was punched did not appear injured.
Officers then went to a different apartment, where the resident first denied that Langston was inside before admitting he was. Langston at first refused to come out, then complied and was arrested. The resident later told police he had been afraid because Langston had threatened him, and that he had not let Langston in.
After being read his rights, Langston denied breaking into any apartments and said others had done it, though he said he did not see the break-ins happen, according to the complaint. He said a resident punched him first and he pushed back, that he hit one apartment door hard and broke another, and that he believed he should be charged with only one burglary.
A resident of a third unit later reported two pistols missing from his apartment, and said the door handle to his unit was gone when he came back. The guns were not found on Langston or in the apartment where he was arrested, the complaint says.
The complaint says Langston was convicted of misdemeanor domestic assault in July 2025 and has older convictions for drug possession, assault and burglary.
Each first-degree burglary count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $35,000 fine or both, according to the complaint.
