A man punched the victim in the face, pointed a handgun at her and took her phone outside a Medina home before fleeing in a car, according to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County.

Tyreik Lavel Perkins faces one count of first-degree aggravated robbery and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault.

According to the complaint, officers responded to a report of domestic assault at a home on Ironwood Circle in Medina on October 22. The victim told officers that Perkins came to her residence to return money he had previously taken from her. She said Perkins stood in the doorway, threw the money and other belongings inside, then entered the home, took her cellphone from her hand and struck her in the face.

The victim reported that Perkins was angry and accused her of having sexual relations with other people. She said she left the home and followed Perkins outside, trying to get her phone back. According to the complaint, Perkins struck her again with a closed fist near her mouth, knocking her to the ground. The victim recalled being struck at least twice.

While on the ground, the victim told officers she saw Perkins brandishing a Glock 19 handgun with a beam and pointing it at her. She said Perkins then took her phone and wig, left the area in a black Toyota Corolla with no front bumper or license plate and messaged the victim’s daughter’s phone to say he would bring the phone to a friend’s house on 14th Avenue South in Minneapolis.

Officers went to the address on 14th Avenue South but did not find Perkins or the Toyota. The victim later reported that her friend returned her phone. Officers then went to Perkins’s uncle’s house on Minnehaha Avenue in Minneapolis and found the Toyota unoccupied. A Keep Our Police Safe alert was issued for Perkins.

Later, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office reported attempting a traffic stop on the Toyota, but the vehicle fled. Officers pursued the car and eventually took the driver, identified as Perkins, into custody. Officers searched both Perkins and the Toyota but did not find any handguns.

The first-degree aggravated robbery charge alleges Perkins used force and threatened the victim with a weapon while taking her phone. The two misdemeanor domestic assault charges stem from Perkins striking the victim multiple times and causing visible injuries, including bleeding cuts on her lips and swelling on the right side of her face, the complaint says.

The charges were filed October 23 in Hennepin County District Court.
