Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after shots were fired at the Eden Prairie High School homecoming football game Friday night, police said.

Eden Prairie police said officers responded to the game at about 8:40 p.m. after a report of shots fired. The stadium was evacuated, and a large police presence remains in the area. Police called it an active investigation and asked community members to avoid the area.

According to initial emergency radio dispatches, the shooting appeared to take place outside the stadium while the game was being played inside. One male victim was found down with a gunshot wound to the leg, and a second victim with a gunshot wound to the leg was found a short time later.

A possible suspect vehicle was described as a blue Honda with heavily tinted windows, occupied by four people. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Shortly before 9 p.m., the stadium was being evacuated and nearby roads were shut down. A reunification point for parents to pick up students was set up at Round Lake Park.

As of 9:40 p.m., officers were using drones and several K9s to search parking lots near the stadium and the surrounding area for bullet casings and other evidence. Expect major traffic delays in the area.

“State officials are assisting local authorities to find those responsible after a shooting outside the Eden Prairie football game,” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said Friday night. “No homecoming, in any community, should be disrupted by gun violence. Minnesotans are keeping students and families in our thoughts tonight.”

Police said more information will be released as it becomes available. This story will be updated.
