Grove City Man Charged With Knife Attack on Woman

A Grove City man stabbed a woman in the chest after threatening her and yelling that she was “f-ing dead,” prosecutors say.

Mitchell David Lokken, 23, faces felony attempted second-degree homicide and misdemeanor domestic assault-harm charges.

According to the complaint, a Meeker County sheriff’s deputy responded to a home on the 800 block of Maple Lane in Grove City at about 9:25 a.m. on September 20 after a report of a stabbing. While en route, the deputy learned that Lokken had been taken outside by another adult male.

When officers arrived, they found the victim sitting on a couch, holding a towel to a stab wound on her chest and struggling to breathe. Medical personnel began treating her at the scene before she was transported to a local hospital and later transferred to a second hospital for further care.

The victim told officers that Lokken became upset, yelled threats at her and said he was sick of her. She said Lokken went to the kitchen, then came toward her and stabbed her once in the chest while she stood in the entryway. After the stabbing, another adult male in the home intervened and restrained Lokken. Officers recovered the knife used in the assault.

Lokken later told a Meeker County sheriff’s sergeant that earlier that morning, he had left the home on foot and the victim followed in a car. He claimed the victim tried to run him over, and after getting into the car, they argued on the drive back. Lokken alleged the victim tried to kick him out of the car and strangled him with her elbow, causing him to black out.

He said that after returning home, another argument broke out and, believing the victim was going to try to strangle him again, he grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her in the chest while she stood in the living room. Lokken said he was then put in a choke hold by others in the home and blacked out again.

A witness told investigators that the victim had told Lokken to get ready to go that morning, and Lokken stormed out of the house. The witness said when the pair returned, Lokken was yelling, swearing and slamming doors. The witness saw Lokken on the victim with a knife in the hallway between the kitchen and living room, holding the knife above his head with blood on it.

He pulled Lokken away from the victim in a choke hold until another adult male arrived to help. Another adult female called 911 and helped render aid to the victim.

A second witness reported hearing the victim scream for help, then saw Lokken being restrained with blood and a knife in his hand. This witness said Lokken had been increasingly aggravated, especially toward the victim. A third witness gave a statement consistent with the others.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and collected evidence from the scene. Lokken was arrested and transported to the Meeker County Jail.

The charges allege that Lokken attempted to kill the victim by stabbing her in the chest and caused bodily harm during a domestic assault. The complaint does not mention any prior criminal history for Lokken.

The case was filed September 22 in Meeker County District Court.

About This Charge

Minnesota’s criminal-attempt statute, § 609.17, limits punishment for attempt to no more than half the maximum for the completed offense. Attempted second-degree murder carries up to 20 years in prison.
