A 46-year-old Minneapolis man retrieved a missing handgun from a pile of clothing in a vehicle outside a Ramsey residence after a family argument, then drove away with the weapon before returning it, according to the complaint.
The events unfolded at about 7:17 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026, when law enforcement responded to a home on Iguana Street NW in Ramsey, Anoka County, after a report of a possible domestic-related issue.
Daniel Joseph Graf faces a felony charge of possessing a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence.

According to court records, officers spoke with a witness who reported that Graf had driven away from the residence while under the influence following a verbal argument. The witness said Graf packed up her vehicle with various items and left, then returned briefly to grab the family dog before leaving again.
A second witness told officers that after the argument, she checked her gun safe and discovered her .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun was missing. She stated the gun safe had been left unlocked and that Graf knew about its location. When Graf returned to the residence, the second witness confronted him about the missing firearm. Graf then opened the back of the vehicle, reached into a pile of clothing and produced the handgun, placing it on the ground before driving away.
The following day, the first witness provided a statement to law enforcement confirming that Graf had possessed the firearm.
The complaint notes that Graf is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction for child cruelty resulting in injury or death in Sacramento, California, on August 5, 2013.
The charge was filed Wednesday, September 9, in Anoka County District Court.
