A group armed with multiple firearms entered a Minneapolis apartment building, threatened two men at gunpoint and tried to force open an apartment door before dispersing, according to a criminal complaint.
Donta Jamahal Magee II, 43, faces four charges in Hennepin County District Court: aiding and abetting second-degree riot while armed with a dangerous weapon, two counts of threats of violence with reckless disregard for risk and carrying a pistol without a permit in a public place.
According to the complaint, Minneapolis police responded to an apartment building on October 7, 2026, after a report of an assault involving firearms. Officers learned a group of four had entered the building through a side door while armed with multiple firearms. The group included Magee, identified by building staff and the victim, and three others, one of whom was seen holding a rifle. Magee was seen wearing a white shirt, black pants, black and white shoes, a cross-body bag and a backpack.

The group paced outside before entering the hallway and approaching an apartment. The complaint says they threatened a man associated with the apartment and tried to force the door open. Another man nearby opened his door to check on the situation and was immediately held at gunpoint and ordered back inside. One of the men reported that Magee held two firearms and pointed a gray and black semi-automatic handgun directly in his face, while the others were also armed.
After the group dispersed, officers continued their investigation. On October 15, police attempted to speak with Magee at his apartment while planning to execute a search warrant. Days later, on October 18, one of the victims reported seeing Magee point a gun at him from a window and threaten to shoot, using a different firearm than the one seen earlier.
On October 19, officers found Magee on foot in Minneapolis and arrested him. He had a handgun loaded with one bullet in the chamber and did not have a permit to carry. Police searched Magee’s apartment and found a firearm part for a Draco gun, a Glock gun box, a blue bag with a live bullet, a knife and a weapon light, among other items.
In a post-Mirandized statement, Magee admitted to being in a feud with one of the victims that goes way back. He described himself as the protector and like security of the community. Magee told officers he found the gun about a month earlier and kept it for protection, and that he had tried to get a permit to carry.
The charges allege Magee aided and abetted a riot by participating in an armed group that threatened violence, made threats to shoot, and carried a pistol without a permit in a public place.
The charges were filed October 20 in Hennepin County District Court.
