2 Hurt After Gunfire Inside Columbia Heights Restaurant

Gunfire inside a Columbia Heights restaurant left two people hurt Saturday night, with the shooter fleeing before officers arrived.
The shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, on the 4600 block of Central Avenue Northeast, police say.
Columbia Heights police responded with assistance from Coon Rapids police, Fridley police and Allina EMS after reports that shots were fired inside the New York Gyro restaurant.

Early information indicates a man fired gunshots inside the restaurant before leaving the scene.
An adult male and a teenage boy who were with the same group were taken from the location by others and transported to a local hospital prior to law enforcement arrival. Authorities say both victims were later confirmed to be in stable condition.

Officials said Sunday they believe the shooting was targeted and not a random act. They have not yet released further details about what led up to the shooting.
Officers searched the area but no arrests had been made as of late Sunday morning. The investigation remains active and is being handled by the Columbia Heights Police Department with assistance from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
