An 83-year-old man riding a motorcycle died Sunday afternoon after he left the roadway on Highway 14 in Steele County, according to authorities.
Richard Dean Bedney, from Byron, was pronounced dead at the scene and was the only person involved in the crash, the Minnesota State Patrol said.
The crash happened around 5:20 p.m. on May 31 on westbound Highway 14 near County Road 43 in Havana Township, according to an incident report.

Bedney was riding a 2018 Harley-Davidson westbound when he left the roadway. He was wearing a helmet and alcohol was not suspected, the Patrol said. Road conditions were wet at the time and investigators have not yet released what may have Bedney him to leave the roadway.
The Steele County Sheriff’s Office, Owatonna Police Department, Owatonna Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance assisted the State Patrol.
