A woman was shot and killed inside a south Minneapolis apartment Saturday and the suspected shooter fled before officers arrived, a MPD spokesperson said.

Fifth Precinct officers responded at about 5:35 p.m. to a report of a shooting at the apartment building at 2435 Pillsbury Avenue.

Officers found a woman with life-threatening gunshot wounds and began rendering medical aid. She was taken to Hennepin Healthcare, where she later died.

Preliminary info indicates an argument inside the apartment escalated to gunfire, according to police. The suspected shooter left the scene before officers arrived and there has been no suspect information released by authorities.

Homicide investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led up to the shooting and MPD Forensic Scientists processed the scene to collect evidence.

“Tragically, another person has lost their life after a firearm was apparently used during an altercation,” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said in a statement. “This is a senseless loss of life, and our investigators will take all necessary steps to ensure the person responsible is held accountable.”

The MPD incident number is 26-121615.
