Woman, Teen Die After Car Slides Into Oncoming SUV

A woman and a teenage passenger were killed Friday morning after losing control on a snow-covered stretch of Highway 274 in Yellow Medicine County, colliding with an oncoming SUV.
The crash happened just after 8 a.m. at 190th Avenue in Wood Lake Township as crews across the region were responding to rapidly deteriorating road conditions.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the northbound Monte Carlo slid on the icy highway and crossed into the path of a southbound 2024 GMC Acadia. The two vehicles hit head-on.

The driver of the Monte Carlo, 41-year-old Jean Elizabeth Hodgman, of Echo, died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt. Her passenger, 14-year-old Jonathan David Ramos, of Echo, also died. He was unrestrained.
The driver of the Acadia, 44-year-old Stacy Lynn Timm, of Montevideo, was wearing a seat belt and survived. She was taken to Granite Falls Hospital with injuries that were described as not life threatening. Airbags deployed in her vehicle.

State Patrol officials noted that alcohol was not a factor. Snow and ice covered the roadway at the time of the crash.
Yellow Medicine County deputies, Wood Lake firefighters and first responders, Granite Falls Ambulance and Cottonwood Ambulance assisted at the scene.
The State Patrol said the information released Friday afternoon was believed to be complete.
