Woman Killed in Hopkins Shooting, Man in Custody

A woman died after a shooting Saturday afternoon on a residential street in Hopkins and a man was taken into custody, police say.

Officers were called around 3:28 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, to the 1300 block of Cambridge Street on a report of a shooting.

When police arrived, they found an adult woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was taken into custody in connection with the shooting and authorities have not released the names of the people involved or any possible relationship they had to one another.

The Hopkins Police Department is leading the investigation with assistance from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. Officials say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Investigators remained at the scene Saturday as they worked to gather evidence and interview people connected to the incident. Police say additional details will be released as the investigation continues.
