Pedestrian Hit by Driver on Wayzata Boulevard

A pedestrian was seriously injured Saturday evening when a driver struck him along a busy stretch of Wayzata Boulevard, authorities said.

Wayzata police say officers and fire personnel were called around 5:18 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, to the 1300 block of Wayzata Boulevard East on a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

When crews arrived, they found a 28-year-old man, from Loretto, who had been hit by a driver. Paramedics transported the man to Hennepin County Medical Center. His condition had not been released as of publication.

Police say the driver, a 24-year-old man from Minneapolis, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Authorities have not said whether speed, impairment or other factors may have played a role, but officials stated there is no indication at this time that impairment was involved.

The Wayzata Police Department is investigating the crash with assistance from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol. Because the investigation remains active, police say no additional information is being released.
