Driver Killed After Car Crosses Center Line In Wadena County

A head-on crash on U.S. Highway 71 in Wadena County early Monday morning left at least one driver dead.

The crash was reported around 6:45 a.m. on January 5 at mile marker 233 in Rockwood Township.

State patrol officials say an 87-year-old man from Sebeka was driving southbound on Highway 71 in a 2003 Chevrolet Impala when the car crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a northbound 2018 Toyota Tundra driven by a 60-year-old man from Hewitt.

Authorities say the crash was fatal and that at least one driver was killed, but they have not yet released details specifying which driver died or the extent of injuries suffered by the other.

Authorities say airbags deployed in each vehicle. Road conditions at the time of the crash were reported as snow and ice covered.

Wadena Ambulance, the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office and the Sebeka Fire Department assisted at the scene.
