2 Die in Carlton County Crash

Two people died Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Thomson Township, according to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office.
It was first reported at about 9:02 a.m. on Dec. 26 at the intersection of East Stark Road and Canosia Road.
The deceased were identified as Anthony Drake, 57, and Tammy Drake, 57, both of Oronoco, Minn.
Deputies were alerted to a two-vehicle crash with unknown injuries and arrived to find a GMC Sierra pickup and a Chevrolet Impala that had gone into the ditch near the intersection.

Investigators said all four people involved in the crash were injured, with the most severe injuries suffered by the occupants of the Chevrolet Impala. Life-saving efforts were attempted on the Impala’s driver and passenger but were unsuccessful. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the GMC pickup included a 32-year-old male and a one-year-old male, both from Thomson Township. Each were transported by Cloquet Area Fire District ambulance to Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet for treatment. Their conditions were not released.

Carlton County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by Minnesota State Patrol troopers, Esko Fire personnel, Carlton Fire personnel and Cloquet Area Fire District paramedics. Minnesota State Patrol investigators also responded to assist with crash reconstruction while Esko Fire handled traffic control during the investigation.
Authorities said alcohol or substance impairment is not believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
