Teen Motorcyclist Dies in Crash In Marshall

 

A teenage motorcyclist died Monday afternoon in a crash with an SUV on the southern edge of Marshall, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The crash was reported just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of southbound Highway 23 and Travis Road in Lyon County.

A 2024 Subaru Forester driven by a 67-year-old woman, of Lake Wilson was, traveling through the area when it collided with a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by a 16-year-old boy from Marshall.

The teen died at the scene and his name has not been released.

The driver of the Subaru was not injured in the crash. The State Patrol said she was wearing a seat belt and did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol. There was no airbag deployment in the SUV.

Officials have not said whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet or what may have led up to the crash. Road conditions were dry at the time.

In Minnesota, riders under 18 are required to complete the Minnesota Motorcycle Safety Center’s Basic Rider Course before earning a motorcycle license. They must already hold a valid Minnesota driver’s license and complete both classroom instruction and a riding skills test. Completion certificates allow them to take the state knowledge and skills tests for a motorcycle permit and endorsement.

The Marshall Police Department, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Department of Transportation assisted at the scene. The State Patrol continues to investigate.

Authorities have identified the motorcyclist as Jaron Robert Kramer, 16.
