A 13-year-old boy on a bicycle died last night after a driver struck him at a Farmington intersection and fled, with police now asking for the public’s help finding the driver.

Farmington officers were called around 9:45 p.m. on July 14 to a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist at Highway 50 and Dushane Parkway, in front of the McDonald’s, according to the Farmington Police Department.

A preliminary investigation indicates two boys were crossing Highway 50 when a driver heading west struck one of them and drove off without stopping, police said.

Bystanders, officers, firefighters and paramedics gave the boy immediate medical attention, but he died at the scene. He was from Apple Valley and police are not yet releasing his name pending notifications.

Investigators believe the vehicle is a smaller black SUV with front-end or passenger-side damage and is missing its passenger-side mirror.

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to conduct the crash investigation and is assisting Farmington police.

Police asked anyone who saw the crash or who has information that could identify the vehicle to call the Farmington Police Department at 651-280-6700.

Investigators are seeking info from anyone in the area at the time of the crash or who may have dash camera or surveillance video of the vehicle before or after the collision. The investigation remains active.
