The incident happened around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, on the 1800 block of 7th Street East in Saint Paul.

According to the criminal complaint, officers arrived on a report of a stabbing and found a juvenile male with multiple injuries. Authorities say the boy suffered stab wounds to his right shoulder, left chest, back, left elbow and right foot.

The victim told police he had been sitting in a vehicle with his girlfriend and a friend when a man later identified as Eugene Wilson, 55, of Saint Paul, approached and began looking into the windows. The victim got out and confronted him. Wilson initially walked away but returned a short time later.

The situation escalated into a fight. The victim told investigators he slammed Wilson to the ground before Wilson pulled out a large fixed-blade hunting knife and began stabbing him. The victim said he tried to kick Wilson away but was cut on the foot during the struggle.

A second person who was with the victim attempted to disarm Wilson and suffered a cut to the hand while grabbing the knife.

All three ran into a nearby apartment building and shut the door behind them. Investigators say Wilson tried to follow but was unable to get inside.

Officers later located Wilson inside an apartment on the same block. A resident told police Wilson had come to her door with the knife and went inside to use the bathroom. Investigators recovered a large fixed-blade knife from the apartment.

During an interview with police, Wilson told officers he acted in self-defense and claimed three people had attacked him. He said he used a box cutter and did not remember stabbing anyone. Investigators say Wilson also admitted to making a false 911 call about shots fired in another area in an attempt to avoid being located by police.

Wilson is charged with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. He made an initial court appearance March 12, where bail was set at $60,000. He remains in custody.

Court records show Wilson has prior felony convictions, including multiple violations of an order for protection in 2022 and violations of a domestic abuse no-contact order in 2019. He also has a gross misdemeanor stalking conviction from 2015.

If convicted of the current charge, Wilson faces up to seven years in prison or a $14,000 fine, or both.
