Minneapolis Woman Killed Crossing Highway In Mille Lacs County

Authorities say a Minneapolis woman was killed early Wednesday when a driver struck her as she crossed a Mille Lacs County highway during icy conditions.
The fatal crash was reported at 6:27 a.m. in Isle Harbor Township, on Highway 27 near 400th Street.

39-year-old Danielle Lee Boyd was crossing the roadway when a northbound Cadillac CTS, driven by a 41-year-old man from Isle, hit her. The State Patrol says the driver was traveling northbound on Highway 47 near 400th Street at the time of the collision.
Boyd died at the scene. The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was not hurt, the patrol said.

State Patrol officials said the road was snowy and icy. Alcohol was not suspected for the driver and investigators have not determined whether it was a factor for Boyd. Authorities have not said why Boyd may have been crossing the highway or where she had been beforehand.
Emergency crews from the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, Isle Police Department and Isle Fire responded to assist. Traffic in the area was impacted as investigators documented the scene and began crash reconstruction work. Investigation remains ongoing.
