Minivan Stopped for Construction Hit in Fatal Crash In Brown County

 

At least one person died in a crash Tuesday afternoon on Highway 15 in Brown County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Several others were hurt when a sedan rear-ended a minivan that had stopped for road construction.

Troopers responded at 1:47 p.m. to the southbound lanes of Highway 15 near 170th Street in Cottonwood Township. A 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan, occupied by a 75-year-old woman and an 83-year-old man, both from Madelia, had stopped for roadwork when it was hit from behind by a 2021 Nissan Altima.

The Altima was driven by an 18-year-old woman from Sioux Falls, S.D. Two 10-year-old passengers were also in the vehicle. The State Patrol classified the crash as fatal, but has not yet confirmed who died and identities are scheduled for public release Wednesday.

The report indicates airbags deployed in both vehicles. Emergency responders from multiple jurisdictions assisted at the scene, including the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, New Ulm Fire, Allina EMS, Madelia EMS, Mayo 1 Air Ambulance and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation.
