As two detectives approached the vehicle, they reportedly heard a gunshot. When they reached the car, the driver was found slumped over.
Deputies removed the driver and began life-saving efforts. Other responding officers and medics also attempted to provide aid, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No law enforcement officers discharged their weapons. A passenger was inside the vehicle and was not physically hurt.
Because detectives were present when the shot was fired, the sheriff’s office requested that the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension handle the investigation. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death and release the person’s identity.
The sheriff’s office described the incident as devastating and extended condolences to the driver’s family and those who witnessed what happened.
