Man Fatally Shot Near Red Lake, Suspect Found Hiding in Woods
A man was shot and killed Friday night east of Red Lake, prompting a large-scale suspect search by police and federal agents.
The Red Lake Department of Public Safety confirmed the incident in a media release issued Tuesday morning, though they haven’t officially identified the victim or the suspect.

Officers responded to the area, off State Highway 1 and Reservation Highway 44, around 7:15 p.m. on Friday, June 20, finding the victim lying outside a residence and with a fatal gunshot wound.
Based on early information and an initial suspect description, law enforcement launched a coordinated search through a nearby wooded area. A shelter-in-place order was issued for residents in the immediate area while the operation was underway.

With help from community members and a drone operator, officers eventually located a male suspect hiding in a dense wooded area west of the original shooting scene. He was arrested there without further incident and transported to the Red Lake Detention Center.
The FBI and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are assisting with the ongoing investigation and scene processing.
