Man Dies After Early Morning Shooting in Alexandria

A man is dead after a shooting inside a home early Tuesday morning in Alexandria, authorities say.

Police officers were sent to a report of gunfire around 1:16 a.m. to a residence on the 1700 block of 6th Avenue East.

Inside the home, officers found a 27-year-old man unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Officers attempted lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released details about what led up to the shooting or whether anyone else was inside the home at the time. Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting Alexandria police with the investigation. Authorities have not released the man’s name, and no arrests have been announced.
