Man at Bus Stop Shot by Stray Bullet as 2 Drivers Exchange Gunfire

A man waiting at a bus stop was shot in the chest by a stray bullet Friday night after occupants of two vehicles opened fire at a busy Saint Paul intersection.

The shooting happened around 8:50 p.m. near White Bear Avenue & Old Hudson Road.

The 54-year-old victim was not involved in the gunfight, police said. Paramedics transported him to Regions Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. The Saint Paul Police Department said the wound is non-life-threatening.

Officers arrived to find the victim at a bus stop near the 1700 block of Old Hudson Road, close to the Holiday gas station. Police closed White Bear Avenue while they investigated and searched for evidence. Shell casings were found scattered across the intersection, according to police radio dispatches.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video from nearby businesses, which showed the shooting took place on the southwest corner of the intersection near the Holiday station. According to radio dispatches, occupants of a black SUV were firing at another vehicle in what was described as a "gunfight between Subway and Walgreens.”

Both vehicles fled the area before officers arrived and police have made no arrests as of late Friday night.Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
