Intruder Fatally Shot During Break-in on Red Lake Reservation

 

A man was shot and killed Wednesday after reportedly forcing his way into a home in the Redby District on the Red Lake Reservation.

Sometime Wednesday, Red Lake Dispatch received a 911 call from a homeowner who said a male subject had kicked in their door.

According to the Red Lake Department of Public Safety, the caller said the man was shot after entering the residence.

Officers arrived at the home and found people inside performing life-saving efforts on the man who had been shot. Officers took over care and called for Red Lake EMS, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Red Lake authorities say the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension assisted with processing the scene, alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Red Lake Public Safety.

The investigation remains open, and officials are urging anyone with information to contact the Red Lake Department of Public Safety at 218-679-3313 or the FBI at 763-569-8000.
