Homicide Investigation Underway After Shooting in Minneapolis

A man was shot and killed Tuesday evening during an altercation that escalated to gunfire in Minneapolis, according to police.
Minneapolis officers responded just before 6:30 p.m. to the 1500 block of 11th Avenue South after a report of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found 30-year-old Lafayette Anthony Collaso on the sidewalk with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by officers and EMS to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the shooting stemmed from a confrontation between a group of people who were gathered on the sidewalk. He said those involved likely knew each other and that the dispute quickly escalated.

No arrests have been made as of late Wednesday morning. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death a gunshot wound to the chest, and the manner of death was determined to be a homicide.
