A Minneapolis man fled from officers after they found him asleep in a vehicle at a green light, leading to multiple drug and driving charges.

Laquan Traveon Fair, 45, faces several charges including first-degree drug possession for having 25 grams or more of fentanyl, two counts of second-degree drug possession for having 6 grams or more of fentanyl and multiple counts of fifth-degree drug possession. He is also charged with driving while intoxicated and fleeing a peace officer.

The incident occurred on June 18, 2026, near the intersection of 3rd Street South and 5th Avenue South in Minneapolis.

Officers on patrol noticed Fair’s vehicle idling at a green light and approached to find him asleep inside. After waking him, they detected the odor of alcohol and requested he exit the vehicle for sobriety tests. Fair showed signs of impairment during the tests and was informed he was under arrest for DWI. At that moment, he ran from the scene, dropping a scale as he fled. Officers eventually apprehended him after he fell to the ground.

Following his arrest, officers executed a search warrant for a blood sample, which revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.084. During an inventory of the vehicle, officers discovered a purple crown royal bag in the glove compartment containing seven plastic baggies filled with a substance that tested positive for fentanyl, totaling 39.7 grams. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 4, 2026.
