Duluth Man Charged After Mother Found Fatally Shot in Living Room

A Duluth man has been charged with murder after authorities say he admitted to killing his mother inside their home last weekend.

According to a criminal complaint, officers were called to Ninth Avenue East around 10:50 p.m. on Aug. 16 after a neighbor reported a disturbing encounter.

The neighbor told police that 46-year-old Nathan Douglas Davin knocked on their door while wearing only boxer shorts and that he appeared intoxicated. Davin reportedly mentioned something about a fatality inside his home.

When officers approached, they saw blood on Davin’s hands. Asked about it, Davin told them, “I found my mom f***ing dead.” Inside the home, police found a woman born in 1951 sitting in a recliner with a severe gunshot wound to her face. Blood was on her clothing, the chair, and the wall behind her. Officers recovered a spent pistol casing on the floor and a bullet in the victim’s hair near the exit wound.

In Davin’s bedroom, officers found two pistols in plain view along with additional firearms stored in an unlocked safe. A Glock 9mm pistol with apparent blood on it was on a nightstand. Investigators also located a box of Sig Sauer ammunition that matched the recovered casing, bullet and live round found inside the house. Officers seized Davin’s clothing, which had blood on it, as evidence.
