Driver Hits Bicyclist, Pedestrian On Lake Street, Flees Scene

Minneapolis police say two people were seriously hurt early Monday after a driver struck a bicyclist and a pedestrian before fleeing the scene.
The crash happened around 12:15 a.m. on Aug. 25, along E. Lake Street between 4th Avenue South and 5th Avenue South.

Officers responded and found an adult male bicyclist and an adult male pedestrian, both with potentially life-threatening injuries. They were treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Hennepin Healthcare.
According to initial information, a blue SUV was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Lake Street when it hit the bicyclist, who had been riding in the bike lane, then struck a pedestrian crossing the street. The driver did not stop, police confirmed.

Investigators from MPD’s traffic unit and forensic team processed the scene and collected evidence. No arrests have been made.

UPDATE | 5:30 p.m., Monday, August 25
Minneapolis police clarified that the man on the bicycle was struck while riding in the bus lane, not the bicycle lane. Investigators have since located the blue SUV involved in the crash and are following leads to identify the driver. No arrests have been made. Police said there is no update on the conditions of the two men who were injured.
