Life-saving efforts were initiated by jail staff and continued by responding emergency crews, but the person was pronounced dead despite those attempts.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was called in to lead the investigation at the request of the Saint Louis County Sheriff’s Office to avoid any potential conflict of interest. BCA personnel responded to the scene and are continuing to gather evidence to determine what led to the death.
The name of the deceased is being withheld until next of kin have been notified. No preliminary cause of death has been released, and authorities have not indicated whether foul play is suspected. Officials said more information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
