Brooklyn Center Man Charged After Stabbing Woman Over 20 Times in Park

A Brooklyn Center man is charged with attempted murder after police say he confessed to stabbing a woman more than 20 times in a premeditated attack at a park early Sunday morning.

20-year-old Logan Anthony Seitz is accused of attempting to kill a woman he followed to Willow Lane Park after allegedly deciding earlier that night to find someone to murder.

According to the complaint, Seitz told officers he had planned the attack and had been fantasizing about killing someone since he was 10 years old.

At about 2:00 a.m. on July 27, Brooklyn Center police responded to a 911 call from a man who said he had just stabbed a homeless woman. Officers arrived at a home near 6800 Perry Avenue North and identified the caller as Seitz. He reportedly repeated his admission and told officers he stabbed the woman around 20 times and enjoyed it, but wasn’t sure whether she had died. Officers noted that Seitz had blood on his knees, hands, and arms, though he was uninjured. He allegedly confirmed the blood belonged to the woman and said he had changed out of his bloody shirt after returning home.

At the park, officers found a woman matching Seitz’s description with numerous stab wounds across her arms, torso, chest, shoulders, stomach, and hands. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Though barely able to speak, the woman told police that her attacker was a young man who lived nearby. Medical staff later advised police that she was expected to survive.

Seitz allegedly told police he snuck out of his house earlier that night with the intent to kill and brought a knife with him for that purpose. He said he initially waited outside a gas station for a potential victim but passed on several people because they were in groups or with someone else. When he saw the woman alone, he followed her before initiating conversation and walking with her to the park.

Seitz told investigators that after sitting on a bench and talking for a while, he became angry with her, told her he was going to kill her, and began stabbing her repeatedly. He said she fell to the ground, but he continued stabbing and kicking her in the head until she stopped moving and screaming. He claimed he stopped only because he became tired. He said he threw away the knife on his way home to avoid being shot by responding officers.

According to the complaint, Seitz also told police he washed his hands because “her blood smelled,” and that he had warned another person in his home not to tell anyone about seeing his bloody shirt. He said he did not feel bad about the attack and hoped the woman would die. When told she might survive, Seitz reportedly became upset and expressed no remorse. Officers said he spoke calmly and even laughed at times while recounting the stabbing. He also told police that if he had access to a gun, he would shoot up a school.

Seitz is charged with attempted first-degree premeditated murder while using a dangerous weapon, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. Seitz made an initial court appearance on Tuesday where bail was set at $2 million with conditions including no alcohol or controlled substance use and no possession of dangerous weapons.
