Arrest Made in Minneapolis Shooting That Killed 1, Injured 6

Minneapolis police say a man accused of opening fire in a deadly mass shooting last month has been arrested.
Officers took 24-year-old Trayveion Alvin Green into custody late Monday night in downtown Minneapolis.

Investigators say Green was wanted on an arrest warrant for murder in connection with the Aug. 26 shooting that left one man dead and six other people injured near the intersection of East 29th Street and Clinton Avenue.
Just before 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 22, officers working near the 600 block of 1st Avenue North located Green and arrested him without incident. He was booked into the Hennepin County Jail and is charged with one count of second-degree murder with intent, not premeditated and six counts of attempted second-degree murder with intent, not premeditated.

Green made an initial court appearance Tuesday where a judge set bail at $2 million with conditions.
Green is the third person to face charges tied to the case. Police previously arrested Ryan Timothy Quinn and Tiffany Lynn Marie Martindale on Aug. 26. They were charged three days later with aiding an offender while on probation or parole.

According to Minneapolis police, the Aug. 26 attack involved a man stepping out of a vehicle and firing roughly 30 rounds from a .223 rifle at people gathered on the sidewalk. One man was killed at the scene and another suffered life-threatening wounds. Four men and a woman who were also shot ran toward Lake Street for safety before they were located and taken to Hennepin Healthcare. All of the injured victims are expected to survive.

Chief Brian O’Hara called the arrests the result of “professionalism and relentless dedication” from investigators:
“This mass shooting outside an occupied school had a chilling impact on our entire community, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this investigation,” O’Hara said. “We hope that bringing this shooter in to be held accountable for his actions will begin to provide a sense of justice for the victims and their families.”
Authorities identified the victim as 35-year-old Gregory Doyle Sweeten. The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, while the manner of death was ruled a homicide. The investigation remains ongoing.
