89-year-old Driver Dies in Oak Park Heights Crash
An 89-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 36 in Oak Park Heights.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened just after 2:15 p.m. when a westbound 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee rear-ended a 2019 Ram pickup near Greeley Street and then rolled over.

Troopers identified the driver of the Jeep as 89-year-old Daniel Patrick Powers, of New Richmond, Wisc. He was wearing a seat belt and the vehicle's airbags deployed, the Patrol said, and Powers was taken to Regions Hospital. He was pronounced deceased there a short time later due to the severity of his injuries.
The driver of the Ram, a 58-year-old woman from Stillwater, was also wearing a seat belt and was not transported to the hospital. State Patrol noted her injuries as non-life-threatening.

The road was dry at the time and alcohol was not detected on Powers. The crash remains under investigation. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
