A Minneapolis man shot a woman in the wrist while she sat in her car near Lake Street, then fled as she drove herself to the hospital, according to charges.
Antone Larron Owens, 60, faces charges of attempted murder in the 2nd degree, assault in the 2nd degree with a dangerous weapon causing substantial bodily harm and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
According to the complaint, officers responded to Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis at about 8:50 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, after the victim arrived with a gunshot wound to her right wrist. The victim told officers she had been parked on the church side of Lake Street, likely in the 3000 block of 13th Avenue South, when she saw Owens approach her vehicle in the rearview mirror.

She said Owens pulled out a gun and fired two shots at her while she was inside the car, striking her in the wrist. She immediately drove herself to the hospital.
Officers observed a bullet hole in the driver’s side window and another below the window on the driver’s side door of the victim’s vehicle. The radio inside the car was also damaged, which the victim said happened when Owens smashed a perfume bottle on it during a previous argument. Surveillance footage confirmed the victim’s vehicle was at the scene of the shooting at about 8:42 p.m. that night.
In a further statement, the victim described ongoing conflict with Owens, including an incident three weeks before the shooting when he blocked her from leaving and punched her in the face.
Two days before the shooting, Owens threatened her, saying, “Alright B****, I’m going to kill you, alright I’m gonna kill you and you going to get what you have coming.” On the day of the shooting, the victim said she was out with a relative when she noticed Owens following her in a black GMC SUV before he approached her car on foot and fired the shots. She has since undergone multiple surgeries to save the use of her arm.
Owens was arrested by Minneapolis police on August 5, 2026. During a search of his residence, officers found a black Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun hidden beneath an HVAC air vent in the floor, loaded with live rounds. Police later determined the firearm had been reported stolen out of Saint Cloud. Additional bullet fragments were recovered from the victim’s vehicle.
Court records show Owens is prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions, including 3rd-degree drug sale in 2014 and 3rd-degree drug possession in 2024, for which he remains on probation.
Owens is being held on $500,000 bail. The charges were filed Friday in Hennepin County District Court.
About This Charge
Minnesota’s criminal-attempt statute, § 609.17, limits punishment for attempt to no more than half the maximum for the completed offense. Attempted second-degree murder carries up to 20 years in prison.
