21-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Downtown Minneapolis Ramp Crash

A 21-year-old man from Spring Lake Park died after losing control of his motorcycle while exiting downtown Minneapolis early Sunday morning.

Investigators believe the crash happened around 1 a.m. on the 3rd Street ramp leading to westbound Interstate 94.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, it wasn’t reported to authorities until approximately 9:15 p.m., when the wreckage and the rider were discovered.

Troopers said 21-year-old Paul Calderon Cabrera of Spring Lake Park, was driving a 2009 Kawasaki EX650 at a very high rate of speed when he lost control and crashed. Cabrera was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Minneapolis police and firefighters assisted State Patrol troopers on the scene, along with the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. No other vehicles were involved, and troopers reported dry road conditions at the time.

The crash remains under investigation by the State Patrol.
