According to investigators, Thompson had been swimming with a group of people during the early morning hours. As others in the group got out of the water, one person jumped off the dock and discovered Thompson floating face-down nearby.
An autopsy later determined that Thompson died from a cervical spine fracture, the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The incident remains under investigation and authorities have not released additional details about how the injury may have occurred.
