A Morris man pointed a handgun at the head of a man waiting for roadside assistance in Morris and threatened to kill him Nov. 1, according to the complaint.

Jackson James Taylor, 19, is charged in Stevens County District Court with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and two felony counts of threats of violence. He also faces gross misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree assault of a peace officer, obstructing legal process with force, carrying a pistol without a permit in a public place and possessing a firearm as an unlawful user of a controlled substance. The complaint was filed Nov. 3.

According to the complaint, the man told a Stevens County sergeant he was standing by a disabled vehicle near East 7th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, waiting for AAA, when a blue two-door sedan pulled up beside him. He said the driver insulted him and asked, “Do you want to die today?” The driver then reached across a female passenger, pointed a handgun at his head and said, “I’ll actually kill you right here today.” The man said he raised his hands and backed away.

Security video showed the sedan pull up at about 1:57 p.m. and the man put his hands in the air and back away, the complaint says. Investigators traced the car by its license plate and got a search warrant for the car and its owner’s home.

When officers served the warrant, a man matching the description walked away from them and was ordered to stop. The complaint says he pulled away, became extremely combative, kicked and tried to strike officers, threatened to spit on and bite them and said he would kill them. After he was handcuffed, he reached out and said he wanted the sergeant’s gun. He was identified as Taylor.

Officers found a loaded Glock 17 9mm pistol in the car’s center console. In an interview, Taylor denied pointing a gun but admitted the pistol was his and that he had no permit to carry, according to the complaint. He also told officers he had used methamphetamine almost daily while working but said he had not used it since about July.
