A Finlayson man ran from a Pine County deputy after driving a three-wheel ATV with no lights and an 11-year-old passenger through a stop sign in Hinckley early Oct. 31, according to the complaint.
Sheldon Lorance Gary Colsrud, 20, is charged in Pine County District Court with felony fifth-degree drug possession. He also faces gross misdemeanor counts of second-degree DWI test refusal and bringing contraband into a jail, plus misdemeanor counts of fleeing an officer on foot, underage liquor possession and driving after revocation. The complaint was filed Nov. 3.
According to the complaint, a deputy on patrol in Hinckley saw a yellow three-wheel ATV with no working lights heading south on Lawler Avenue. The driver did not stop for the stop sign at Fire Monument Road and went through the intersection at about 20 to 25 mph. When the deputy turned on his emergency lights behind the ATV, he could see an adult male driver and an 11-year-old boy riding as a passenger.

The driver kept going for a while before pulling into a driveway on Lawler Avenue and up to a garage, the complaint says. He got off the ATV, looked directly at the squad car and ran. The boy stayed by the ATV while the deputy chased the driver around the house and found him standing in the yard with his hands on his head. He was identified as Colsrud.
Colsrud’s speech was so slurred that the deputy could not understand him. He appeared unsteady on his feet. He did not walk to the squad car as directed and tried to pull away when the deputy took his arm. Other officers arrived and helped handcuff him. The deputy smelled a strong odor of alcohol. Colsrud said he had not had anything to drink, but the deputy found two unopened cans of Busch beer in his jacket pockets.
A record check showed his driving privileges were revoked. At the Pine County Detention Center, Colsrud refused field sobriety tests and later refused to give a breath sample, according to the complaint. He acknowledged running the stop sign. During booking, jailers found suspected drugs in his wallet that tested positive for methamphetamine, with an uncertified weight of 0.43 grams.
