A Carlos man threw a baggie holding about 114 grams of methamphetamine out of a car window while fleeing an officer in Richmond early Oct. 30, according to the complaint.

Jacob David Denny, 36, is charged in Stearns County District Court with three felonies: first-degree drug possession, first-degree DWI for refusing a blood or urine test required by a search warrant and fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle. The complaint was filed Nov. 2.

According to the complaint, an officer tried to stop the car at about 1:23 a.m. The driver did not stop for emergency lights, short bursts of the siren or the full siren. The car moved into the oncoming lane while the officer also used his PA system to order the driver to pull over.

While following the car, the officer saw the driver throw a white baggie out of the passenger window. The driver turned down a dead-end road and stopped only after law enforcement blocked his way, the complaint says. He was identified as Denny.

Denny did not comply with commands and was eventually removed from the car, according to the complaint. When an officer presented him with a search warrant for his blood or urine, he would not answer questions or say whether he would comply.

The officer went back to where the baggie was thrown and found a plastic baggie with a substance that weighed about 114 grams and field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

The complaint says Denny has a prior felony conviction.
