Minneapolis police have arrested a suspect in the Oct. 3 shooting death of a man on a Metro Transit Green Line light rail train.
Police announced Oct. 30 that Jaquan Darrian Edwards, 30, was arrested after an investigation by Minneapolis and Metro Transit police with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and other agencies. Police said he will be charged with second-degree murder. Hennepin County jail records show he was booked into the jail Oct. 30 on a second-degree murder charge, with bail set at $1 million.
Officers were called around 9 p.m. Oct. 3 to a report of a shooting on a train traveling from the Stadium Village station in Minneapolis toward Saint Paul, police said. The train stopped at the Westgate station, near University Avenue and Curfew Street.

Metro Transit police officers found the victim with at least one gunshot wound. Emergency crews and Saint Paul firefighters tried to save the victim on the platform, but the victim died at the scene. Police identified the victim Oct. 5 as Joseph Denny Nezperce of South Saint Paul.
Police said the suspect reportedly got off the train shortly after the shooting. Minneapolis homicide detectives investigated with help from Metro Transit, and police forensic scientists processed the scene. Police credited the work of both police departments, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and other partners over the past several weeks.
“I appreciate the solid police work of our investigators and the partnership with Metro Transit in keeping our city safe,” Minneapolis Interim Police Chief Billy Peterson said in a statement.
“If you commit a crime on the Metro Transit system, we will find you,” Metro Transit Police Chief Joseph Dotseth said.
