A woman fired a BB gun at a man from close range during an argument over a dog in Glenwood, prosecutors say.

Shea Tasha Juergens, 22, is charged in Pope County District Court with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, making terroristic threats and fifth-degree assault. The charges were filed October 26.

According to the complaint, Glenwood police were dispatched to East Minnesota Avenue and 5th Street SE on October 23 for a report of a domestic incident involving a BB gun. Officers spoke with the victim, who reported that Juergens had come to Glenwood to give him a dog they shared. The victim said Juergens became upset when he began taking the dog for a walk and after he returned the dog to her, she shot him in the back and left hip area with a BB gun.

The complaint says an officer photographed the victim’s injuries at the scene. Juergens was found nearby a short time later. Before being detained, she told an officer that she had become “aggressive” while taking the dog back from the victim and admitted the pellets “did hit him.” She was then detained due to weather conditions and transported to the Glenwood Police Department.

At the station, Juergens described an ongoing argument with the victim over the dog throughout the day. She told police she had followed the victim in her vehicle while he walked the dog and admitted firing the BB gun at him, stating she fired a total of three pellets.

The victim told police that he and Juergens were about one to one and a half feet apart when she fired at him and that she had not pushed him beforehand. He said Juergens appeared to have fired until the BB gun was empty and afterward told him, “If there were more bullets in here, I’d shot you in the head.” The victim also stated he believed Juergens had planned to use the BB gun on him before seeing him that day.

The complaint states the victim provided text and Snapchat messages exchanged with Juergens, including a message from the victim to Juergens saying, “Why don’t you come back up here and shoot me some more,” which was marked as not delivered. The BB gun and photographs of the victim’s injuries were collected into evidence. The interaction was captured on body-worn and squad camera.

Juergens was placed under arrest.
