A Mankato man is accused of attacking a man at the door of a Blue Earth County home after accusing him of robbing him, in an assault that involved a bat and a stabbing, according to a criminal complaint.
Joseph William Eng, 39, faces two felony charges, first-degree burglary involving an assault and aiding and abetting second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, along with a misdemeanor count of fifth-degree assault. The complaint was filed Sept. 18 in Blue Earth County District Court and issued with a warrant for his arrest.
According to the complaint, Blue Earth County deputies were sent on Aug. 1 to a home on a report of an assault. A man there told a deputy he heard a knock, opened the door and found Eng, who accused him of robbing him, then reached in and hit him, knocking him outside.

The man said he was then struck on the forearm and hit about five times with a bat or club, and that a second man grabbed him while he was on the ground. He felt something on his hand and believed he had been stabbed. Deputies saw a large cut on his hand, the complaint says.
A woman at the home said she was hit in the head during the attack, and deputies saw a lump on her head. She told them she was certain who the attackers were, according to the complaint.
In photo lineups, the man picked out Eng and the second man, the complaint says. He said Eng was the one who stabbed him and hit him and the woman.
The burglary count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $35,000 fine or both, according to the complaint.
