A Superior man helped another person try to use a stolen credit card at a Duluth mall store after taking a vehicle packed with the owner’s belongings, according to charges.

Riley Robert Sikorski, 39, faces charges of aiding and abetting financial transaction card fraud and theft of a motor vehicle.

According to the complaint, Duluth police responded to the 200 block of North 27th Avenue West on August 29, 2026, after the owner of a vehicle reported it stolen. The owner told officers he had packed his vehicle for work around 6 a.m. and went back inside his house to look for his spare keys. When he returned outside a few minutes later, the vehicle was gone.

The owner believed his primary key was in the vehicle but not in the ignition, and reported that his phone, wallet, backpack, work tools and other belongings were inside when it was taken.

A witness told police he saw three males get into the vehicle and leave. He said he was busy working and was not paying close attention but was confident he saw three males in the vehicle. Two days later, an officer found the stolen vehicle parked in the 2000 block of West Fourth Street. The vehicle was locked and no keys were visible. Officers returned the vehicle to the owner.

The owner later reported that someone tried to use his credit card, which had been inside the stolen vehicle. He obtained a receipt showing a declined $602 purchase at JD Sports in the Miller Hill Mall on August 29, 2026. The owner had already cancelled the card before the attempted transaction.

An investigator reviewed surveillance footage from JD Sports and recognized Sikorski and a woman. The footage showed the woman attempting to use a credit card at the register at 10:34 a.m., with Sikorski trying to help her when the transaction did not go through. Both left the store without making a purchase.

The woman was arrested on September 17, 2026. When she was arrested, she had a worker identification card with the vehicle owner’s name on it. In a post-Miranda statement, the woman admitted to being with Sikorski when he took the vehicle and said the keys were inside. She confirmed they went to the mall intending to buy clothes and items to sell, and said that when she told Sikorski she was hesitant about taking the car, he told her she would at most get a ticket for joyriding.

The charges were filed September 25 in Saint Louis County District Court.
