A Minneapolis man led police on a high-speed chase that began in Robbinsdale as a passenger tossed firearms out of the vehicle, according to charges.
Jose Alexander Rendon-Serrano, 31, faces two counts of possessing a firearm after a conviction for a crime of violence and one count of fleeing police in a motor vehicle.
According to the complaint, officers with the Robbinsdale Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle on Sunday, June 7, 2026. The driver stopped at first, then sped away at a high rate of speed, running stop signs and red lights before getting on Interstate 394. Officers later identified Rendon-Serrano as the driver and Larice Ann Smith, 31, of Minneapolis, as the front seat passenger. Smith was charged in a separate complaint filed June 8 with two counts of possessing a firearm after a conviction for a crime of violence.

During the pursuit, an officer saw the occupants reach into the back seat. The complaint states Smith threw objects, including what appeared to be two firearms, out of the vehicle. Police eventually stopped the vehicle with a PIT maneuver, and officers found two firearms along the pursuit route.
Both firearms were submitted to the BCA for DNA analysis. For one firearm, DNA from the grip and slide was determined to be a mixture from four people, with statistical analysis strongly supporting the inclusion of Rendon-Serrano. Smith was excluded as a contributor to that firearm. For the second firearm, DNA analysis supported the inclusion of both Rendon-Serrano and Smith as contributors.
The complaint says Rendon-Serrano was previously convicted of felony fifth-degree controlled substance possession on March 2, 2016. The complaint also says he was on warrant status in another court file when the charges were filed.
The charges were filed Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
