A woman tried to stab a man near his ribs before slashing both front tires of the vehicle he was using, according to charges. Albert Lea police responded to a residence Sept. 18 after a 911 hang-up call.
Marlin Abrego, 34, of Albert Lea, is charged with one count of felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
The man told police Abrego had asked him to leave the home. He took a pack of cigarettes he had bought for her and went outside to the vehicle, according to the complaint.
He said Abrego approached the passenger side holding a butcher knife about a foot long. He got out and told her not to cut the tires.
Abrego tried to stab him near his left ribs and threatened to cut him, then slashed the front passenger tire and the front driver’s tire, the man told police. He drove away and parked on Sixth Street East.
Officers saw that both front tires were deflated. The complaint estimates the damage at $180 and does not report that the man suffered a knife wound.
Officers spoke with Abrego and took her to the Freeborn County Adult Detention Center, according to the complaint.
