A man on a bicycle slipped into a secured Eden Prairie apartment garage by following an authorized vehicle, then left with a stolen bike, according to charges. Officers later found tools, a knife and shotgun shells in his belongings.
Noor Mohamud Ahmed, 33, of Saint Paul, faces charges of second-degree burglary and possession of burglary or theft tools.
According to the complaint, Eden Prairie police responded to a report of a suspicious person inside the secure garage of an apartment building in Eden Prairie on September 8, 2026. Apartment staff told officers they saw a man, later identified as Ahmed, enter the garage without permission by tailing an approved vehicle while riding a bicycle with red lettering.

Staff reported that Ahmed left the garage with a black Huffy bicycle valued at $198. Officers found Ahmed nearby with the stolen bicycle and recovered it. During a pat frisk, officers believed Ahmed might have a weapon in a fanny pack around his waist.
Officers searched Ahmed and found a glass narcotic pipe, a container with suspected narcotic residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, a screwdriver and a black canister of chemical irritant spray. In Ahmed’s backpack, officers found two more screwdrivers, a wrench, wire cutter pliers, a flashlight and other miscellaneous tools.
Police also recovered nine loose rounds of Ninja 0.410 caliber shotgun shells, a large double-bladed knife and a box cutter from Ahmed’s belongings.
The charges were filed Thursday, September 10, in Hennepin County District Court.

Minnesota classifies burglary by degree under § 609.582. First-degree burglary, such as entering a home while someone is inside, carries up to 20 years in prison. Second-degree burglary, which includes entering any dwelling, carries up to 10 years, third-degree up to five years, and fourth-degree burglary is a gross misdemeanor. Possessing burglary or theft tools is charged separately under § 609.59 and carries up to three years.
